September 21 Honolulu to Sydney...Honolulu

A Day in Honolulu

September 21 Honolulu on Leg 1 of the Australian Adventure

Australia 2019 Leg 1: September 20 - October 11

September 21, Day 2: Honolulu, Leg 1

It was a long day yesterday, travelling from Lethbridge, Alberta to Honolulu, Hawaii! In fact, it was an 18 hour travel day, from leaving my home at 5:30 AM (MDT) until check in to the hotel in Honolulu at 7:30 PM (11:30 MDT)! And, 2 provinces, 2 countries, 3 flights, 2 airport lounges, and finally, a room all to myself!! Yes, I travelled alone, and will meet Sharon here today, in Honolulu, where we will begin our ‘Pacific Ocean Bike Trip’, Leg 1 of our 4 Leg trip!

How can it be a ‘Bike Trip’ in the Pacific Ocean, you might be wondering. Well, we usually do a bike trip every second year or so and this year thought a cruise might be a nice alternative...and yet, the bike trips have become a bit of a ‘thing’ for us. So we combined our passion for bike trips with our desire to take a cruise, and now we will bike on the stationary bikes on the cruise ship to get our biking miles each day, from Honolulu to Sydney, Australia for 18 days! Isn’t that clever!!

When I got off the plane last night in Honolulu the humid air felt good; I live in a dry, prairie climate so my skin appreciates the moist air. How did I know I was in Hawaii..these tell-tale signs!

Checked into the hotel, realized I was hungry so made a couple of purchases at the hotel’s little store, then crashed in my room...tired and happy to be settling in for a good night’s sleep. I had this little ‘hotel room party for one’, read a bit, then had a wonderful sleep, until 4:00 AM when my phone began to ping with messages from those in a time zone 3 and 4 hours later!

Hotel room comes with breakfast, so after a quick shower I had a good breakfast, then checked out, heading to the hotel where Sharon and I will meet and stay for 2 nights before boarding the ship on September 23.

Checked into the hotel, and went for a walk along the beach, which is right across the street from our hotel, the Princess Sheraton Kaiulani, Honolulu ... then went back to the room to wait for Sharon. She arrived a short while later and we spent some time just catching up and getting settled over some appetizers, on our deck. The view was splendid!! And we whiled away the evening.

While we were chatting, there suddenly appeared a rainbow, framing Sharon’s head...must be an omen for an amazing trip to come:

It was an early bedtime as we were both tired; Sharon from a long trip, and me from the sun and exercise. We watched the sun set and then crashed.

Tomorrow will begin our adventure together!!

Ciao for now, Carol on the go...
