October 22 Port Douglas, Australia

Port Douglas, a tour of the town, an historic fort, a lighthouse, a beautiful beach, a majestic cathedral!

October 22 Port Douglas, Australia

The ship was anchored off shore in rocky seas. We waited almost an hour to board the tender because of the rough sea. The weather was hot and humid, the skies overcast and we had a bit of rain during the day.

Once ashore walked for a couple of hours, getting to know this quaint town.

The place is lush, a bit like a rain forest with beautiful flowers everywhere.

We climbed a hill to an old lighthouse and an historic church.

Then continued up this steep hill to a Lookout Point. The view was wonderful in spite of the overcast skies. This is a beautiful town, in close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef; several people from the ship did excursions there but we had done that already so decided to explore on our own.

As we headed back to the port to return to the ship we came upon a local brewery so of course we had to check it out! We can now honestly say that the Hemingway Brewery in Port Douglas has very good beverages!!

We tendered back to the ship, cleaned up and headed to the Martini Bar where we joined a group of new friends for a daily debrief and then headed to dinner in the BLU Restaurant.

After dinner we went to the show with singer Nikki Bennett, an amazing performance!

And then we checked out the Casino for a short while before calling it a day. And that’s a wrap for today. More to come, Carol on the go.
